Nishat Ahmed
Chemistry Instructor

Nishat Ahmed is the proud mother of three beautiful children whom she loves to homeschool. Her kids have been attending AWI classes for many years. Nishat is grateful that the love of nature has affected her children to their core. They are as comfortable on the ground amongst wildlife as they are on the family room sofa.
Nishat fell in love with nature through a different route. As a young child, she once came across a book that showed her all the ways she could save the earth. Nishat was shocked. She didn’t even know the earth needed saving.  Since then, protecting the environment has been in her heart and on her mind.
A graduate of UC Berkeley, Nishat obtained a bachelors degree in Molecular and Cell Biology, Immunology, and a masters degree in Public Health, Environmental Sciences. Her previous works involved investigating the effect of environmental toxins on pediatric growth and development. Her team looked at the role of specific genes which could mitigate or exacerbate harmful environmental exposures.
In other words, Nishat is a lab rat. She finds extreme joy in the atomically small things that make up our world. Nishat is fascinated with nature's building blocks and how they function. She also loves genetics. Her favorite object in the world is DNA. If you ever catch her intently staring at you and your children, don't be scared. She's not a stalker. She is just trying to figure out which traits your children got from you, and which ones they got from your partner. Weird but true.
The knowledge that everything in the universe is connected at the most fundamental level, solidifies her faith that there is only One Creator of all things. The complex science that drives this awareness motivates her to keep discovering and learning about these connections. Her passion drives her and she has always hoped to pass this excitement on to others.

Which is why Nishat is thrilled to be teaching for the Art and Wilderness Institute. She gets to work alongside an incredibly talented and diverse group of people. She also gets to teach children who are primed and eager to protect the environment. The individuals who make up this unique institution are wholeheartedly committed to making the world a better place. Nishat couldn't ask for a better team to play for. Go AWI!
