2020 DESIGN CONTEST

TRADING CARD DESIGN CONTEST
DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 30, 2020 at MIDNIGHT
​EXTENDED TO december 1 at NOON


-This Design contest is only for students currently enrolled in an Art and Wilderness Institute Class, Membership, or Program.
  1. Each student may submit up to 2 art pieces to be considered for print. Students 5 to 18 may enter. Parents are welcome to help their kids out with the artwork.
  2. The top 2 art pieces will be the new trading cards in February 2021
  3. DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 30, 2020
  4. Don't worry about providing a photo for the trading card. Photos are taken care of by Sama Wareh. Only focus on the design itself.

CHOOSE 2 out of the 7 CARDS TO DESIGN FOR:

- Mule Deer
- Black Widow
​- Coast Goldenbush
- Coyote Brush
- Northern Raccoon
- Ca Pepper Tree
​-Doveweed (Turkey Mullein)


ART CRITERIA & RULES:
  • Dimensions of Art must be 7" x 12"  inches. To give you an idea, a regular sheet of paper is 8x10 inches. So, that means you must start with a larger paper and then cut it to be exactly 7 x 12" inches. Art that is not the correct size will not be considered. 
  • Art must be a high resolution file of 300 dpi or greater (Basically when we print it, it must print clean without pixelation)
  • Art must be original
  • Do not draw a border. When the card is printed, a border will be added. 
  • Handwriting for facts and title MUST BE NEAT. Imagine that you artwork will be shrunk so any sloppy writing will automatically be disqualified from the contest.
  • Art must be portrait (up and down), not landscape (side to side)
  •  Facts must be correct
  • Your signature must be small in the right or left hand corner.
  • You may only submit one time so take your time on your artwork. You have until November 30! 
  • Must have the Latin Name (Be sure to lower case the second part of the latin name. Study the CA NATIVES Trading cards carefully to look for the design theme and what is usually included on them.  You must also be sure that you research the correct name of the animal or plant. So be specific in the name of the bird. Example: Its not a "ROBIN" its an "AMERICAN ROBIN"
  • Only students of Art and Wilderness Institute or Club members may enter the Trading Card Contest.
  • For best results, try to format your cards like the CA NATIVES TRADING CARDS

WINNERS will receive:
- Their art printed as the official art for that trading card
- 20 copies of the chosen trading card
- Their work featured on our blog
- 3 trading cards of their choice (Except for Red-Tailed Hawk)

TIMELINE:

  • OCTOBER  15​Contest opens
  • NOVEMBER 30-Contest ENDS
  • DECEMBER 3- 25- THE Designs will be available for PUBLIC to vote for on Social Media and google Forms. All those who submit will be notified so that you can share with your friends and families to cast the vote. In addition to public voting, there will be a panel of judges who's vote will equal 5 public voters. 
  • DECEMBER 30- WINNERS will be POSTED online and NOTIFIED
  • JANUARY-Cards are in the design and print phase
  • FEBRUARY 10- 2 New Trading Cards with Student are Available for earning and for adding to Retail sets.​
