2020-21 Plant Medicine Series
Plant medicine has been used for as long as humans have been on the planet. Medicinal plants have compounds that cause physiological changes in the body. This could be something as simple as the bitterness of an arugula salad stimulating digestion or chewing on a fennel seed to alleviate gas pains, but there are many actions that can be applied to all different aspects of our body's. Beyond that, some herbs have a specific organ affinity with their action like an expectorant use in the lungs or nervine use with the central nervous system. We will be exploring plant actions, medicinal uses, organ affinities, dosages, applications and more of some of our most common herbs that most people will easily recognize, you might even already have it in your home.
